Jefferson Hills Library has joined 70 other Pennsylvania libraries in achieving the Gold Star in the Pennsylvania Library Association’s PA Forward Star Program.

The program, established in 2016, rewards PA libraries with Bronze, Silver and Gold stars for achieving benchmarks in their programming, activities, services and resources. The Gold is the highest level of accomplishment in the Star program.

The Star Program works through five key literacies – Basic, Information, Civic & Social, Health and Financial – to assist all residents in enhancing their overall quality of life.

The Star Library recognition offers support to libraries who participate and integrate those literacies in their programming activities.

“We are happy to provide the quality materials and programs that communities in the 21st Century rely on to make their public library the center of community learning and activity,” said Library Director Jan Reschenthaler.

Jefferson Hills Library Program Coordinator, Jane Milner said the Library has joined with community partners such as the West Jefferson Hills School District, Jefferson Regional Foundation, Jefferson Hospital, Community College of Allegheny, TJ Arts, community groups, civic leaders and area businesses to promote the five key literacies.

“We invite our community and our neighbors to visit our library, log on to our website to discover a wealth of information, like Us on Facebook and participate in the many programs and services we offer,” Milner said. “We are proud to be a part of the PA Forward movement that is impacting and changing lives in our community.”
