Aldi moving into Pittsburgh Mills, building plan confirms
One of the worst-kept secrets in the Alle-Kiski Valley is a secret no more — a new Aldi store is coming to the Pittsburgh Mills in Frazer.
Specifically, it is planned to be located in the former OfficeMax store at 1040 Village Center Drive in The Village at Pittsburgh Mills, the shopping complex next to the enclosed Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills.
The low-cost grocer is one of two businesses moving into the strip building behind Sonic and Applebee's this year. A Fine Wine & Good Spirits store is going in toward the other end.
Frazer officials are reviewing plans for both projects. Building permits had not been issued as of Tuesday.
Aldi held a hiring event in Lower Burrell last week to staff the new store, but company officials would not reveal its exact location other than its “Tarentum” mailing address.
While Alle-Kiski Valley residents commenting on social media already knew where the store would be going, that information was officially contained in the plans recently filed with Frazer Township.
The nearly 19,000-square-foot store is set to open by the end of the year.
“I think it's great,” Frazer Supervisor Lori Ziencik said of the store moving in. “Aldi is well known for its produce.
“It's a good complement to the area here,” she said.
The new Fine Wine & Good Spirits store is scheduled to open sometime this fall, according to Shawn Kelly, a spokesman for the state Liquor Control Board.
The store will be located in the former Catherines women's clothing store between Famous Footwear and H&R Block. It will be about 4,000 square feet in size.
