Brackenridge police Chief Jamie Bock on Thursday, June 7, 2018. Bock announced at a council meeting that night that June 30 will be his last day on the job, after 20 years as chief and 41 years in total with the borough.

Brackenridge officials will be discussing the leadership of the borough's police department following the retirement of its longtime chief.

Jamie Bock, the department's chief for 20 years, said his last day on the job will be June 30.

Sgt. John Antal also is retiring, council President Tim Connelly said.

Both Bock and Antal, two of the department's four full-time officers, are eligible for a retirement incentive council approved Thursday.

Under the incentive, the borough will pay each of them a $30,000 severance within 30 days of their retirement dates. They had to submit an irrevocable letter of resignation by May 31 and must retire from the department by June 30.

Connelly said the borough will not immediately seek a new chief. More part-timers will be brought on, he said.

“We want to think about this,” he said. “We don't want to be jumping the gun.”

The department has two part-time officers. Connelly said two to four more will be sought.

He could not say who would be in charge of the department after Bock leaves.

A Brackenridge native, Bock, 64, has been a police officer in the borough for 41 years.

“It's time,” he said of his decision to retire.

Bock said he has no immediate plans for his retirement. He called retiring “bittersweet.”

“I've done this for two-thirds of my life,” he said. “It's going to be a drastic change.”
