Woman killed by train
A woman was found at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday near Mile Lock Lane and the Brackenridge Works of ATI.
A 40-year-old woman was struck and killed by a train Wednesday night in Harrison.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified the woman Thursday morning as Marsha Jo Graham, of Brackenridge.
The incident occurred about 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Mile Lock Lane and Sixth Avenue. The train was headed toward Freeport. Graham’s body was found within sight of the Allegheny Technologies Inc. steel mill in Harrison.
Harrison police Sgt. Brian Turack said she was declared dead at the scene.
Lt. Andrew Schurman, of the Allegheny County Police, said that witnesses said the woman “had been walking along the tracks when the train approached from behind her. The train activated all of its warning devices in an effort to get her attention. The woman did not move in time and was struck.”
No foul play is suspected.
County homicide detectives, medical examiner investigators, Norfolk Southern officials and local police huddled at the Mile Lock Lane crossing about 60 yards from where Graham was found.
The mixed-freight train was traveling from Conway, Pa., to Hagerstown, Md., and included five engines and 82 rail cars, Norfolk Southern spokesman Jonathan Glass said.
