Dermody wins another term in the 33rd State House district

State Rep. Frank Dermody, D-Oakmont, will once again represent the voters of Pennsylvania’s 33rd District, which includes several communities in the Alle-Kiski Valley.

Dermody collected 55 percent of the votes cast in the district compared with Republican Joshua Nulph’s 45 percent shortly after 11 p.m., according to the state’s unofficial election results. The 33rd District includes parts of Allegheny and Westmoreland counties. In the Valley, it includes Arnold, Brackenridge, Cheswick, East Deer, Frazer, Harmar, part of Harrison, Indiana Township, New Kensington, Oakmont, Springdale, Springdale Township and Tarentum.

Dermody has held the seat since 1991.

He thanked the voters for another opportunity to serve them.

“It was a good victory,” he said. “We won in almost every community but one in the district. It was a resounding victory. We went out with a very positive message … and I think it resounded with them.”

He plans to work with Gov. Tom Wolf to adequately fund education, create jobs with family sustaining wages, and protect the environment.

Nulph, 21, of Harrison, said he was grateful for the opportunity to run, and wished Dermody the best.
