Highlands School Board approved nearly a dozen personnel moves Monday, including a hiring that gives the district a counselor for students in every grade.

Angela Boyer will be a counselor based at Highlands Elementary School and also serve the district’s Early Childhood Center, which includes pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students.

Substitute Superintendent Monique Mawhinney said the district previously did not have an elementary counselor, but with Boyer’s hiring it now has one at every grade level.

Boyer starts working Tuesday with a salary of $48,000.

In other moves, Rebecca Bragan, the dean of students at Highlands High School, was named the district’s assistant athletic director, effective Tuesday. She’ll be paid a $7,500 stipend.

The board ratified the Oct. 3 recall of furloughed employee Linda Gold. She had been a paraprofessional at the district’s former primary center. She’ll return to the same job at what is now the Early Childhood Center, district spokeswoman Jennifer Goldberg said.

Iesha Griffin was hired as a payroll secretary with a $45,656 salary, while Marilyn Schaltenbrand was hired as a cafeteria alternate at $9.76 an hour. Both hires take effect Tuesday.

The board ratified the
Sept. 24 hiring of Harry Dickey as a custodian at the middle school. He’s being paid $22.90 an hour.

The board also approved the hiring of substitute nurse Janis Bracken and substitute aide Karianne Glesk for $7.25 an hour. Both hires are effective Tuesday.

Two resignations were accepted.

Matthew Beresik, the high school band director, resigned as instrumental director of the high school spring musical. High school cafeteria worker Pamela Kane resigned Sept. 30.
