Funeral procession for fallen New Ken officer Shaw to close Freeport, Leechburg roads
There will be long-term and rolling road closures in New Kensington and Lower Burrell Wednesday as hundreds of law enforcement officers are expected to participate in the funeral and procession for New Kensington police Officer Brian Shaw, killed Friday following a traffic stop.
The New Kensington Bureau of Fire is arranging the closures. Rolling road closures of Leechburg Road and Freeport Road and cross streets will follow Shaw's procession as it leaves Rusiewicz Funeral Home in Lower Burrell for Mount Saint Peter Roman Catholic Church in New Kensington for Shaw's funeral mass, then goes back along Leechburg Road, Route 56 and Melwood Road when the procession goes from the church to Shaw's burial at Greenwood Cemetery.

In addition, the following roads in New Kensington will be closed to all traffic beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday:
• Freeport Road from Short Street to 7th Street
• 7th Street from Constitution Boulevard to Route 366
• Short Street between Freeport Road and Ridge Avenue
• The 800 block of Barnes Street
• Elizabeth Street from Freeport Road to Highland Avenue
• Young Street from Elizabeth Street to 7th Street
At least one lane of Stevenson Boulevard approaching 7th Street also be closed. Temporary parking restrictions will be enforced in those areas and on Freeport Road from Locust Street to 7th.
"Though it is hard to estimate accurate times during such a large event, drivers should expect delays if they need to travel the listed areas from Wednesday morning through early afternoon," the fire department announced. "Our goal is to help show our respect for Officer Shaw on his final ride through the communities he served, and we ask for your patience and understanding."
Visitation will take place again from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rusiewicz Funeral Home, according to Shaw's obituary . The Fraternal Order of Police will hold a service at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
A prayer service at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday will precede Shaw's procession from the funeral home to Mount Saint Peters, where his funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m.
