A decision on the fate of Finley, the pampered 40-pound potbellied pig that belongs to a newlywed Leechburg couple, will be postponed at least two months as the borough's council gets more public input. At issue is an 11-year-old local ordinance prohibiting swine, hogs or pigs in Leechburg's residential area.
Cody and Destiney Griffith — who says she suffers from anxiety and is seeking Finley's certification as a therapy animal — maintain that they checked with the borough and were told the little pig wouldn't be a problem. But the borough says it has no record of the call.
Clearly miniature pigs like Finley aren't farm animals. According to the Pig Placement Network , they are “smart, clean, generally non-allergenic, odor-free, flea-free, charming and inexpensive to feed.” And unlike other domesticated animals, they don't bark, prowl or spread rabies.
By definition, Finley surely is more of a pet than any barnyard swine.
