The parking lots at Kiski Area High School were packed on Sunday, but not with cars one would typically associate with high school students.

Instead, new and classic vehicles ranging from Mustangs to Jeeps, from Rat Rods to Mopars, took center stage for the 14th annual fall Big K Cruise-In.

“It doesn’t get any better than this,” attendee Jerry Migliorisi said.

Car Cruise chairman Bill Martin said there were at least 335 registered vehicles at this year’s event, which benefits the district’s marching band programs. In the past, participants have come from as far as Steubenville, Ohio; Erie and Washington, Pa., he said.

“This is one of our main fundraisers for the band every year,” Martin said. “We’re an award-winning band.”

Martin estimated that well over 1,000 people came to Sunday’s event.

Spectators could be seen meandering through the parking lots, looking at vehicles and chatting with one another in the early afternoon.

“As long as it’s really good weather, this a normal turn-out,” Martin said.

Migliorisi and his wife, Christine, of Allegheny Township were two of people checking out the showcased models.

Both are interested in antique cars. Jerry Migliorisi owns a 1963 Corvette Stingray.

“It’s a clean activity straight-up. It’s wholesome,” he said. “Every household in America should have a classic.”

“This is a great way to support the activities at the high school, too,” his wife added.

Gary Arcurio of Brackenridge brought his 1925 Hupmobile. Bob and Janice Niebauer of Shelocta, Indiana County, came with their 1935 Plymouth Street Rod.

Arcurio said his, particular vehicle is rare because it’s a three-door R14 model.

“I love it,” he said. “I bought it about three years ago and I re-did it myself. Its not perfect, but it works well.”

The Niebauer’s have had their car about 20 years. They take it to quite a few car cruises and shows.

“It has an all-steel body; it’s all original,” Bob Niebauer said.

Arcurio comes to the Big K Cruise-In whenever he can. He likes it because he can see a lot of different vehicles — not just one thing. It’s also for a good cause — the kids.

“They’re the ones that benefit,” he said. “That’s what it’s all about. Having fun.”

The Niebauer’s have come to the Big K Cruise-In about three or four times. They like the food, the location, and the fact that it draws in a lot of vehicles.

“We like to look at the cars,” Bob Niebauer said.
