Vandergrift’s Dollar General’s grand re-opening is set for Feb. 16, 2019.

The new Dollar General in Vandergrift, located in the former Sprankle’s building, opened this weekend with a grand reopening set for Saturday.

Sprankle’s, with stores in Leechburg and Kittanning, sold their Vandergrift site to Dollar General last year after they learned the national low-priced market was interested in locating there.

For Saturday’s grand opening, which starts at 8 a.m., free prizes and special deals will be offered including: The first 50 adult shoppers will receive a $10 Dollar general gift card and the first 200 shoppers will receive a Dollar General tote bag with free product samples, according to a store press release.

Store hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.

“Dollar General is committed to delivering a pleasant shopping experience that includes a convenient location, a wide assortment of merchandise and great prices on quality products,” said Dan Nieser, Dollar General’s senior vice president of real estate and store development, in a press release issued Monday.

Dollar General stores offer national name brands and private brands of food, housewares, seasonal items, cleaning supplies, basic apparel and health/beauty products.

Traditionally, the stores employ about six to 10 people. Anyone interested in working for Dollar General should visit the career section at www.dollargeneral.com.

Dollar General supports literacy and education. At the cash register of every Dollar General store, customers interested in learning how to read, speak English or prepare for their high school equivalency test can pick up a brochure with a postage-paid reply card that can be mailed in for a referral to a local organization that offers free literacy services.
