A Vandergrift man is accused of brandishing a handgun during an argument late Sunday and threatening to shoot a woman.

Kevin L. Beecher, 40, was arraigned Monday on charges of aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment before Washington Township District Judge Jason Buczak and ordered held in the Westmoreland County Prison after failing to post a $100,000 bail.

State police Trooper Luke Hanko said in court papers that, according to the victim, Beecher pulled out a handgun, “cocked the slide” and threatened to shoot her during an argument at a Millstone Road residence in Bell Township shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday.

When Beecher was questioned later, he denied threatening the woman with a handgun during the argument, Hanko said in court documents. Hanko reported police discovered a handgun with “a loaded magazine and a round in the chamber” similar to one described by the victim at Beecher’s residence when he was questioned.

The handgun was confiscated as evidence, according to police.

Beecher’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 1 before Buczak.
