Vandergrift welcome sign.

Vandergrift council will vote on an amendment to expand the number of handicap parking spaces in town during their regular meeting on Feb. 4, at the borough building, 109 Grant Ave.

“The intent of council is to expand the handicap parking opportunities in our town,” said Larry Loperfito, borough solicitor.

Currently, the borough’s parking ordinance allows for a maximum of two spaces per block to be designated for handicap parking, according to Loperfito.

The new ordinance would increase the number of eligible spaces to 15 percent of the available spaces in a block, according to the amendment.

The cost to residents for handicap parking spaces is $150 for the initial charge and then $100 for annual renewals.

The ordinance is available at the borough office for public view until the Feb. 4 meeting Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
