Valley News Campus clippings: Colligan nabs NEC golf honor
When Ann Colligan played golf at Kittanning, she never seemed nervous for WPIAL or PIAA postseason tournaments, always shrugging her shoulders and, almost sheepishly, saying she had just as good a chance to win as anyone.
She's carried that mentality over to the college level and is proving she can play with the best in the Northeast Conference.
The St. Francis (Pa.) junior picked up NEC Player of the Week honors last week after posting her third career win — her first in the spring season — at the Purple Eagles Invitational in Niagara, N.Y.
Colligan shot 3-over 75 in the second round of the 36-hole tournament then got past Youngstown State's Sarah Heimlich in a playoff.
Colligan, who also has carded eight top-5 finishes in her three seasons, has a 79.5 average in three spring events.
