27 pounds of marijuana found in trunk of car on Pa. Turnpike
Two Philadelphia men were stopped on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Wednesday and state troopers discovered about 27 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of their car, according to arrest papers.
Joseph Richard Wright, 32, and Dwayne Dwight Augustus, 35, were being held in the Westmoreland County Prison on $100,000 bail each.
Troopers reported seeing a “faded and dirty license plate cover obscuring the registration plate” of a Nissan Altima traveling east in Hempfield at 12:50 p.m., according to an affidavit. During a traffic stop near milemarker 78, troopers smelled marijuana and searched the car. Both suspects are charged with drug offenses.
Preliminary hearings are set for Aug. 30.
