An arrest-warrant sweep by authorities from numerous Westmoreland County law enforcement agencies this week resulted in 52 people being apprehended and 124 active warrants cleared, Sheriff Jon Held said.
Sheriff's deputies, probation officers and state troopers on Wednesday and Thursday were assisted by officers from police departments in Greensburg, Latrobe, Ligonier borough and township, Jeannette, Derry Borough and Penn Township.
A state police helicopter assisted officers on the ground Wednesday.
Many warrants involved people wanted for failing to appear in court for domestic assaults, hit-and-runs, retail theft, access-device fraud, possession of controlled substances, driving under the influence charges and minor summary offenses — even failure to pay fines, authorities said.
Some warrants involved more serious crimes such as robbery, assaults, fraud and burglaries, a state police spokesman, Trooper Steve Limani, said.
“We'll be able to update the totals at the end of the week because of the overwhelming number of wanted people calling to surrender on the bench warrants,” Held said. “So far, the officers involved have covered more than 700 square miles during the sweep.”
State police were still looking for Eddie Clarence Fairman, 31, formerly of Greensburg, who is wanted for allegedly assaulting and snatching a wallet from a good Samaritan in the parking lot of the Hempfield Wal-Mart on Oct. 17.
Fairman is charged with robbery, access device fraud, theft of lost property, receiving stolen property, simple assault and harassment. He is known to frequent the Greensburg, Jeannette, Latrobe and Derry areas has ties to New York, New Jersey and Florida, state police said.

• Tracey G. Diaz, 47, formerly of Greensburg, who is wanted by North Huntingdon police for retail theft and receiving stolen property.
• Megan Riley, 41, who has lived in Greensburg and Herminie, who is wanted by state police for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia following an incident in Southwest Greensburg in August.
Among those apprehended are:
