Greensburg's Dv8 Espresso Bar and Gallery has reopened under new ownership.
Co-owner Kim Rentler said the next few weeks will be a soft opening as she and her wife, Patricia Elliot-Rentler, get up to speed.
“Both of us are new in this business, but fortunately the previous owner, Terri Barill, has been fantastic,” Rentler said.
Barill founded the cafe about 15 years ago and closed it in May.
Things at the South Pennsylvania Avenue cafe will continue much as they did before, Rentler said. In addition to selling coffee and baked goods, it will be a hub for local artists to display and sell their works, musicians to perform, book clubs to meet and more.
“I think it just provides a creative outlet,” she said. “Art is defined very broadly, because it's all about creating.”
There are still a few blank spaces on the gallery walls, but the cafe has deals with several artists whose work will be on display soon, Rentler said.
Rentler is a photographer, and first came to Dv8 a few months ago to see if she could show her photos there. When she heard it was closing, she and Elliot-Rentler started to think about buying it, first idly, then seriously.
They're the only ones running the cafe for now, but they plan to hire one or two employees, Rentler said.
Dv8 will hold a grand opening party in early September, with live music to mark the occasion.
