Fire at Westmoreland prison extinguished

A fire in one of the buildings at the Westmoreland County Prison in Hempfield was quickly extinguished Wednesday night, officials said.

The fire was reported shortly after 9:30 p.m. Responding fire departments reported a “quick knockdown” and began clearing the site at 3000 S. Grande Blvd. by 10 p.m.

County public safety officials said the fire was reported in Unit E.

No injuries were reported.

The Hempfield fire marshal was reportedly called to the scene.
