While classes at Norwin High School and Middle School were canceled Monday due to a power outage, fifth- and sixth- graders at Hillcrest Intermediate School were transferred to another building due to flooding.

Norwin spokesman Jonathan Szish said because of Monday morning’s torrential rains, district officials canceled afternoon kindergarten classes.

“Once students arrived at Hillcrest Intermediate School, rooftop flooding at the school caused concern. It was decided to transfer those fifth- and sixth-grade students to the high school, which at 8:45 a.m. had power restored,” Szish said.

With high school and middle school classes canceled, “they had enough classrooms,” he said.

All other schools are operational.

Szish said the status of classes Tuesday at Hillcrest has not yet been determined but will be announced later Monday.
