Gateway High School robotics students take 2nd place at event

The Gateway High School robotics program sent two teams to compete in the national SeaPerch competition on May 19, 2017, at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. One of Gateway High School’s robotics teams claimed second place overall at the national SeaPerch competition in Atlanta last month.
The teams used remote-controlled robots made out of PVC pipe, pool noodles, small propellers and wiring to compete in various underwater obstacle courses at Georgia Tech’s aquatic center.
Team McNar, composed of sophomores Nathan Ridge, Ryan Young and Azka Pribad, finished in first place in the obstacle course and second place in another challenge. This gave the team a second place overall score for the open competition, which allowed members to use specialized remotes to control the robots.
Gateway also sent brothers Luke and Andrew DiPalma, Asher Passalinqua and Garrett Hamilton, who made up Team PHDx2, to the competition.
PHDx2 competed in the stock competition and could use equipment from SeaPerch-issued kits; that team did not place in the finals.
