Greensburg couple accused of stealing $19K worth of jewelry
Greensburg police arrested a city couple for allegedly breaking into a woman's home and stealing $19,279 worth of jewelry last month.
James Dickant, 34, is charged with theft and receiving stolen property, and his fiance, Roxanne Mays, 28, is charged with conspiracy in connection with the theft that was reported to police May 22 after pieces of jewelry were found to be missing.
The victim, who lives on Kenlane Street, told police she was uncertain when the jewelry was taken because she did not immediately notice a broken window on a side porch where entry was made. She said she last saw the jewelry May 17.
Patrolman Peter Sandberg charged the pair after authorities tracked the stolen jewelry to a Greensburg-area pawn shop, where Dickant allegedly sold several pieces May 19. However, the victim said the store reported it was unaware the jewelry had been stolen and some of the pieces were already melted.
Sandberg said store employees reported Mays accompanied Dickant when he sold the items.
Dickant was ordered held in the county jail Monday after he failed to post $15,000 bond, while Mays was released on recognizance bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled June 21.
