Hempfield Republican announces bid for commissioner
A program director for a local senior citizens home on Friday announced she will be a candidate for Westmoreland county commissioner.
Heather Cordial, 39, a Republican from Hempfield, said she will campaign on a platform of improving education and job creation in the county.
“We have a major challenge in front of us. The manufacturing companies are thriving but will only continue to do so if there is a trained workforce to meet their needs and they are rightly concerned about the issue. It’s all about workforce training.” Cordial said. “The more successful the businesses are, the more jobs they will create and the broader our tax base will be.”
Since 1999, Cordial has been a member of the U.S. Air Force reserves, serving as a health services manager.
She is program director for Senior Life Greensburg and is the chairwoman of the Hempfield Area Republican Committee.
Cordial holds a master’s degree in leadership and business ethics from Duquesne University and a bachelor’s degree in sociology and criminal justice from Seton Hill University. She has an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Westmoreland County Community College.
Cordial joins a slate of Republican candidates seeking to replace incumbent Commissioner Charles Anderson, who last month announced he would not run for another term. Among them are Anderson’s chief of Staff Sean Kertes, retired executive John Ventre, Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County employee Paul Kosko and microbiologist Doug Chew.
Cordial lives in Hempfield with her husband.
“I want to represent the people of Westmoreland County and not the special interests. If elected county commissioner, I will increase transparency and accountability by working to enact a policy in which the county commissioners are required to put their campaign finance reports online. The state and federal officials are required to do that, why shouldn’t the commissioners,” Cordial said.
