A Jeannette man already serving up to 30 months in prison for attacking two deputy sheriffs during a courtroom brawl last year pleaded guilty on Tuesday to separate charges for the assault of his live-in girlfriend.
Jesse Hassinger, 36, was sentenced by Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Tim Krieger to serve an additional three months in jail for repeatedly punching his girlfriend, Katie Basinger, in the face last March.
It was that incident that ultimately led to the courtroom brawl last summer in which Hassinger was convicted of two counts of aggravated assault. Deputies said they were attacked by Hassinger as he entered a courtroom in April for a hearing on a request by Basinger, who was seeking a protection from abuse order based on the attack against her that he was charged with just a month earlier.
Hassinger was sentenced 15 to 30 months in prison for assaulting the two deputies.
On Tuesday, Hassinger pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count each of simple assault and reckless endangerment in connection with May 12, 2017, incident with Basinger in their Jeannette home. A more serious charge of aggravated assault was dismissed.
Krieger sentenced Hassinger to serve at least 18 months in prison for the Basinger attack but ordered it run concurrent with the sentence he was already serving for assaulting the deputy sheriffs.
As a result of the new sentences, Hassinger will be eligible for parole in September, Krieger said.
