Jeannette police will have more eyes on Clay Avenue with the help of surveillance cameras.

Police Chief Shannon Binda isn’t sure yet how many video cameras will be installed on the street, but the addition can help speed up investigations, he said. Some businesses on Clay Avenue have their own cameras, but getting access to those images in a format compatible with police computers can take up precious time during an investigation, he said.

The video cameras will be purchased with $10,000 that has been seized during drug arrests. That money has been forfeited to the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s office and is being turned over to the city.
