A 78-year old Hempfield man was briefly trapped under an antique tractor Thursday afternoon and was taken to the hospital with ankle injuries.

Ron Smith of Middletown Road was mowing his lawn with a tractor from the 1940s when it hit a fence, tipping over and trapping him underneath just before 4 p.m.

Rescue workers were able to lift the tractor off of him. He was taken to Excela Westmoreland Hospital with ankle injuries.

It is unlikely he had any broken bones, according to responders from the Fort Allen Volunteer Fire Department.
