Memorial Day services planned in the Greensburg and surrounding areas on Monday:
Greensburg: State Rep. Eric Nelson, a former Marine Corps infantryman, will be the guest speaker beginning at 11 a.m. at the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 33’s Memorial Day ceremony at Westmoreland County Memorial Park in Hempfield Township. The VFW in Greensburg annually honors area veterans during the service at the main entrance of the cemetery along Route 136 South.
Irwin/North Huntingdon: Irwin/North Huntingdon VFW and Irwin American Legion will hold its annual parade at 10 a.m. with units forming at Immaculate Conception Church, Second Street. The Army and Marines will have military vehicles for their transportation. Parade will proceed from downtown Irwin to Union Cemetery on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Jeannette: The Jeannette American Legion Post 344 will hold Memorial Day ceremonies beginning at 9 a.m. at Jeannette City Hall, top of Clay Avenue; 9:30 a.m. Sacred Heart Cemetery, Route 30; 10 a.m. Old Sacred Heart Cemetery, North Third Street, near Grandview Fire Hall; 10 a.m. Jeannette Memorial Park, Altman Road. Refreshments and light luncheon will follow the last ceremony at the legion, 109 S. Fifth St.
Latrobe: There will be a Mass at 9 a.m. Memorial Day at the Mary Mother of Mercy Mausoleum Chapel. Celebrated by Archabbot Douglas R. Nowicki, the Mass will honor those who have died while serving in the Armed Forces. Tours will be available throughout the Memorial Day weekend between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The cemetery honors veterans of all wars by placing a flag on each veteran’s grave. Mt. Pleasant: American Legion Post 446 and VFW Post 3368 parade begins 10:30 a.m. with lineup at 10:15 a.m. on Eagle Street. The parade moves down Main Street to Veterans Memorial Park for a service. Capt. Ed Rogland of the Pennsylvania National Guard is keynote speaker. World War II Navy veteran Thomas R. Dix is parade marshal. Mt. Pleasant High School Band will perform.
Murrysville/Export/Delmont: White Valley AMVETS Post 85, the Export American Legion Post 858, Murrysville American Legion Post 711 and the Delmont VFW Post 481 will combine forces to hold Memorial Day services at five local cemeteries. Beginning at 8 a.m. honor roll at the Export American Legion on Kennedy Avenue; 8:30 a.m. Murrysville Cemetery; 9:15 a.m. Hill’s Church Cemetery; 9:45 a.m. White Valley Cemetery; 10:30 a.m. Twin Valley Memorial Park; 11:15 a.m. parade in Export; noon Grandview Cemetery: 12:45 p.m. Honor Roll at the White Valley AMVETS.
Youngwood: Memorial Day parade lineup begins at 8:30 a.m. with parade starting at 9 a.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church, Lincoln Street, and ending at Youngwood fire station. An 11 a.m. service will be held at Youngwood Cemetery.
