A Monessen man will serve up to seven years in state prison for shooting his cousin in the leg.

Jashawn Mackall, 22, on Tuesday entered guilty pleas to aggravated assault and firearms not to be carried without a license in the April 19, 2015, shooting in a Highland Manor parking area in Monessen.

Westmoreland Judge Meagan Bilik-DeFazio sentenced Mackall to three to seven years in state prison, to be followed by five years' state probation.

Mackall fired five shots from a .45-caliber handgun at Keith Davis Jr. during an argument, striking Davis once in the right calf, said Allen Powanda, assistant district attorney.

Davis was treated and released at a Pittsburgh hospital, Powanda said. Davis was an “uncooperative” witness at Mackall's May 22 preliminary hearing and failed to respond to a recent request to meet with prosecutors before trial, Powanda said.

In exchange for the guilty pleas, a more serious charge of attempted homicide was dropped.
