A replacement bridge under construction on Route 217 in the borough has been named Derry Veterans Memorial Bridge.

The name was introduced by state Rep. Joseph Petrarca, D-Vandergrift, and signed into law Friday by Gov. Tom Wolf.

The bridge, being constructed next to the span it will replace, will carry traffic over the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks. The $9.9 million project is expected to be completed this fall.

The bridge naming was requested by borough council, the Derry Area Revitalization Corp. and the Chestnut Ridge VFW Post, Petrarca said.
