Volunteer Denise Tomasic, of North Huntingdon, searches for graves to place wreaths upon at Union Cemetery in North Huntingdon on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018 for the local North Huntingdon chapter of Wreaths Across America annual wreath laying ceremony and event. Volunteers placed 2,250 wreaths on gravesides across Union Cemetery and Immaculate Conception Cemetery along Pennsylvania Avenue.
Volunteers with the North Huntingdon chapter of Wreaths Across America on Saturday placed 2,250 wreaths on the graves of veterans buried in two township cemeteries.

“We met our goal” to have a sufficient number of wreaths for the graves in Union and Immaculate Conception cemeteries along Pennsylvania Avenue, said Rhonda Hunt of North Huntingdon, coordinator of the local chapter.

The event started at noon with the J. Howard Snyder Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 781 Honor Guard and the Norwin Junior Air Force ROTC Color Guard at the Union Cemetery stage area. The wreaths were placed after a brief ceremony, Hunt said.

The local effort is part of the national Wreaths Across America event which is being held in 1,400 locations.
