A Norwin High School student is accused of hitting a fellow student in the face in the school’s parking lot last month, causing the victim to suffer a concussion, North Huntingdon police said.

Nisa Shlynn Defelice, 18, of Irwin, is accused of simple assault and harassment for allegedly hitting a ’16-year-old girl near her left eye during a confrontation at 7 a.m. Nov. 1, Officer Mark Hamilton stated in the affidavit of probable cause filed against Defelice. The victim was diagnosed with a concussion and a contusion during an examination at UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, police said.

Defelice is accused of screaming at the girl and threatening her, before allegedly hitting her above the left eye. Defelice moved around “multiple teachers” who were attempting to block her, police said in the affidavit. Defelice allegedly told police the assault occurred “because of ongoing issues” between the students’ families, according to the affidavit.

Hamilton filed the charges on Nov. 13 before North Huntingdon District Judge Wayne Gongaware. Defelice is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 19 before Gongaware.

Jonathan Szish, a Norwin spokesman, declined to comment on any discipline that Defelice may have received.

“As this is a confidential student matter, the district is legally not permitted to respond to the inquiry or to comment,” Szish stated.
