Route 30 and West Main Street in the Ligonier area were closed to traffic Wednesday evening after a wreck involving a car and a Greyhound bus.
Police and rescue personnel closed westbound Route 30 near Walnut Street and Giant Eagle just after 8:30 p.m.
“One person was trapped in the (car),” said Ligonier Township Sgt. James Friscarella. “Our fire and EMS did a great job removing him.”
Traffic was diverted onto Old Route 30, and the man in the car was taken by emergency helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.
“There were four people on the bus including the driver, and no injuries on the bus,” Friscarella said.
The road reopened about 10 p.m. Ligonier Township police are investigating. Darlington and several other fire and rescue units responded.
Arrangements were made to transport bus passengers from the scene. The driver was taken to a hospital for a required blood test, and Friscarella said a state-police unit would inspect the bus for any evidence of mechanical failure.
The bus was headed from Harrisburg to Pittsburgh, according to Greyhound Spokeswoman Crystal Booker.
