Hempfield No. 2 and Bovard firefighters responded to an alarm shortly before 3 p.m. Friday at Westmoreland Mall, on one of the busiest shopping days of the year at the retail complex.

According to a Westmoreland County 911 dispatcher, the alarm was triggered when a sprinkler head broke at a Chinese restaurant in the mall's food court.

Firefighters briefly staged in the food court and cleared the scene at about 3:12 p.m. Other fire units were cancelled.

There was no word of anyone being evacuated. Details weren't immediately available from mall management.
