Officials with Sunoco Pipeline and its parent company Energy Transfer Partners are buying the Derry Township Volunteer Fire Department an all-terrain vehicle.

Energy Transfer Partners this week presented a $12,500 grant to the fire company.

Fire Chief Mark Piantine said the ATV would be an “invaluable addition” and would help with off-road fire and rescue calls.

“We're going to put a tank on the back of it and a litter carrier so we can rescue people in the woods and put out fires in the woods,” Piantine said.

The company was in the midst of working to raise money to purchase the ATV, something the grant will alleviate.

“We spend more time raising money, away from our families, when we should be out there learning and training,” Piantine said. “This grant here is going to make our job a lot easier.”
