Unity Township Municipal Authority board members and township supervisors will meet Wednesday to discuss a coordinated management plan for stormwater overflow into sewage systems in Unity, Latrobe, Derry Township and Youngstown.

The plan is required under the state Sewage Facilities Act or Act 537.

A special meeting has been called for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Unity Township municipal building, 154 Beatty County Road, to discuss an administrative order issued by the state Department of Environmental Protection on Oct. 2.

The City of Latrobe, Latrobe Municipal Authority and Derry Township Municipal Authority have appealed the order, which they contend incorrectly states that the municipalities did not reach an agreement on a plan.

All the municipalities met last winter in sessions mediated by the DEP.

A resulting consent order called for a $20 million project, to be implemented in two phases over 10 years, to correct the stormwater problem.

Unity officials did not sign off on the plan.

The municipalities have 120 days to submit a new plan, according to the administrative order.
