Water service was restored Sunday night to about 150 Derry residents who had been without service since Saturday night because of a leak.
Amy Forsha, acting manager of the Derry Borough Municipal Authority, said that water service was restored about 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
A crew had been working to restore service since about 8 p.m. Saturday when the authority responded to a report of a water leak at the intersection of West Fourth Avenue and Ruby Street.
“They tried to repair the valve, but it started leaking again,” Forsha said.
Replacing it, she said, requires turning off water service to most West Derry residents.
An additional contractor was called to assist the authority, Forsha said.
Water service also was restored Sunday night to about 30 customers along Ruby Street. They had lost their water on Sunday afternoon when three leaks – two caused by a broken pipe and one from a break or leak at a water main, disrupted service, Forsha said.
Efforts were made to contact affected customers through an emergency notification calling system, Forsha said.
