Come Friday, the Westmoreland County Chamber of Commerce will have a new home — at least temporarily.

Chamber officials and staff will vacate their Greensburg office and relocate to the Kennemetal offices in Latrobe as renovation preparations begin. The $300,000 project will include aesthetic upgrades throughout the chamber’s office, expanding the restrooms and updating the facade of the building, which is adjacent to Mt. Odin Golf Course along Route 30.

Major changes will be made to the board room, which currently seats up to 18 people. The space will be enlarged to seat about 35 people, said Chad Amond, president and CEO of the Westmoreland County Chamber of Commerce.

“That is a benefit to the business community,” Amond said. “We’re going to be able to host more learning sessions and maybe classroom-style programs for the members of the chamber.”

An additional conference room will be added to provide a co-working space for chamber members. It will be available for telecommuting needs or for holding small meetings, Amond said.

The 2,500-square-foot, second-floor office space, where the chamber is located, was last renovated in 1989 when the building was built, Amond said.

Since then, membership has grown over 30 percent, Amond said.

Design 3 Architecture designed the renovation project. The construction bid was awarded to Guardian Construction, a chamber member.

The project is scheduled to start Dec. 1. Work is expected to be completed by mid-March. Most of the funding will come from cash reserves, Amond said.
