QV boys bowling team set for league tournament

The Quaker Valley boys bowling team will take part in the WPIBL team championships Wednesday at Nesbits Lanes in Plum.

The top two teams from each section – 18 in all – will compete for the title.

The Quakers finished second in the West Section with a 7-3 record. Moon topped the section at 10-0.

QV hopes to move up the ranks after taking 16th at last year’s WPIBL team tournament.

Bulldogs edge Panthers in PIHL Varsity A contest

The Sewickley Academy hockey team took Meadville to the limit Monday in a PIHL Varsity A game at Robert Morris University’s Island Sports Center, but the Bulldogs rallied several times and came away with a 5-4 victory.

The Panthers (8-9) held leads of 2-0, 3-2 and 4-3 before Meadville (13-3) scored twice towards the end of the second period. Neither team scored in the third.

Matthew Hajdukiewicz tallied a hat trick to lead Sewickley Academy. It was his fifth game with three or more goals this season.
