Supervisors Tuesday night announced they have received a $10,000 grant to refurbish playground equipment in the municipal park.
Repairs are expected to begin this fall. Improvements will focus on repairs and maintenance of the existing equipment, such as painting the swings and seesaw, with a few new additions.
"New equipment will be geared toward younger children," said Supervisor Chuck Venesky.
Additions include toddler swings and benches. Mulch will also be added throughout the play area to increase safety.
The grant was received from the state Department of Community and Economic Development.
The township is in the process of getting bids to install the equipment, however supervisors discussed having the work done in part by volunteers under the supervision of a contractor. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact the municipal office.
In other action:
Supervisors said a FEMA grant was extended to January 2007 to erect a retaining wall on Thompson Road. Construction of the wall is in response to a hillside collapse during Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
The wall will be located below the former Irvine property. The township recently acquired the Irvine property and must demolish the home before construction on the wall can begin. Weather permitting, demolition will begin later this month.
At that time, a quarter-mile section of Thompson Road surrounding the site will be closed. The road will remain closed for approximately two weeks until construction is finished.
Residents should use Blanchard Road while Thompson Road is closed.
