Two children were hit by vehicles Wednesday evening in separate accidents.
Lisa D'Amato, 8, of Crabtree, was admitted to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC Health Systems in Oakland in fair condition last night after being hit by a vehicle as she was riding a bicycle along Cemetery Road in Unity Township. The Westmoreland County Department of Public Safety said the accident occurred around 7 p.m. and that the child was flown to Pittsburgh for treatment. The girl reportedly was wearing a safety helmet.
Bill Watkins, Crabtree fire chief, said the girl's injuries were not life-threatening and that she was flown "as a precaution."
A second accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. when a 7-year-old boy was hit at the intersection of Third and Alexander streets in Bradenville. Tom Squib, Bradenville fire chief, said the boy was hit by a Ford pickup truck.
Squib said the boy, whose identity wasn't released, was taken to Latrobe Area Hospital. Squib said the boy "was alert and talking" prior to being transported to the hospital.
