Two residents safely escaped a house fire in the North Side this morning.
The fire broke out around 5:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of Sherman Avenue, said Deputy fire Chief Frank Large.
“I lost everything, but I’m alive,” Randolyn McKinstry said as she watched firefighters battle the three-alarm fire.
McKinstry awoke to noises in her third-floor apartment after the tenant on the second floor was roused by his barking dog. She said there were no smoke detectors in the building. No injuries were reported.
The fire traveled up to the third floor and proved stubborn when it entered the roof, Large said, but was under control by 6:50 a.m.
Large estimated damage around $80,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
