2-hour parking limit to replace Irwin meters
Irwin officials are moving toward the elimination of parking meters on Main Street and have implemented a two-hour parking limit.
Borough officials already had bagged the 60 to 70 meters on Main Street but decided on Wednesday night that they will be removed as part of a streetscape project.
Council approved a $10 fine for motorists who exceed the two-hour parking limit.
Borough manager Mary Benko said the move was made to beautify Irwin's business district and encourage shopping there.
She said the loss of revenue from the meters likely will be replaced by parking fines from Main Street motorists.
