Police arrested two teenagers after a man was shot in New Castle on Thursday.

Leland Burnette, 17, of New Castle is charged with attempted homicide and other charges. Markeace Perkins, 18, also of New Castle, faces conspiracy charges, according to a statement from police.

Police believe the two were involved in the shooting of John L. Hawkins Jr., 27, of New Castle. Hawkins was shot about 10:20 a.m. in the 200 block of West Lincoln Avenue. He went to Jameson Memorial Hospital and was then flown to a Pittsburgh hospital for further treatment.

Burnette and Perkins were both found at a house on Epworth Street. Burnette attempted to flee police and was later caught in a wooden area near the house, police said.

New Castle police could not be reached for more information.
