47th Medallion Ball a time to shine
Black Friday might have meant getting up at the crack of dawn to score some serious swag for the holiday season for some shopaholics, but for 119 lovelies, it was their time to shine during the 47th Medallion Ball held downtown at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh (formerly known as the Hilton).
St. Lucy’s Auxiliary to the Blind prexy Penny McKenna and co-chairs Regina Callahan and Julia Gleason were on hand in the Presidential Suite with Bishop David Zubik, escorted by his secretary (and favorite right hand man), the Rev. Daniel Straughn, who was lucky enough not to have spent all afternoon primping.
“Oh, I roll out of bed looking like this,” he laughed.
Elsewhere, Dame of Malta Helen Hanna Casey, Sir Knight of Malta Tighe Freyvogel and Dame of St. Gregory the Great Katherine Freyvogel welcomed Claire Gleason and Caroline Walker (each logged over 500 volunteer hours!), Lauren Lemieux, Kellie Leyland, Allison Milko (celebrating her birthday), Nicole Reynolds, Maria Aloe, Ellie Collavo, Courtney Dailey, Angela DeFrank, Meghan Fogarty, Flannery Loughran and Bridget Stein, who were amongst the white-gloved gals sequestered in the Swan Room, regaling us with tales of how long it took them to get ready.
“An hour and a half,” confessed Pamela Chrissis.
“Two hours. … I take forever!” mused Christine Simon.
“Half an hour,” commented Mallory Winner, laughing at her friends’ reactions to her reveal. “What⢠I did it myself!”
Lining the ballroom, tuxedoed young gents were waiting to escort these snow whites from the presence of Bishop Zubik, who bestowed each of them with their Joan of Arc Medallion to commemorate their commitment to volunteer service, which this year equated to more than 17,000 hours among the girls.
