5 arrested on firearms, drug charges in Spring Hill
Pittsburgh police arrested three men and two women while responding to a 911 call for shots fired at a Spring Hill apartment early Sunday.
Officers responded to an apartment building in the 2100 block of Rhine Place about 2:43 a.m., police spokeswoman Sonya Toler said. When they arrived, they smelled marijuana coming from one of the units. A witness told them the gunshots came from the same unit.
While performing a protective sweep, officers found three guns that had been reported stolen inside a closet, Toler said.
After getting a warrant to search the rest of the apartment, officers found more than 600 stamp bags of heroin, a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and about $1,000 cash, Toler said.
Police arrested Jaquayla Kendrick, 19, of Garfield; Kent Morton, 26, of Brighton Heights; Jemera Hibbler, 28 of Beltzhoover; Lavelle Johnson, 30, of the Hill District; and Eli Herrine, 24, of Houtzdale in Clearfield County.
They are charged with receiving stolen property, illegally possessing a firearm and possessing illegal drugs. They were being held in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting arraignment.
