Nearly 80 percent of Argentineans approve of the job President Nestor Kirchner has done since assuming office in 2003, a survey showed Monday. A poll by Argentine surveyors OPSM published in Pagina 12 newspaper said 79.1 percent of Argentineans are satisfied with the work Kirchner is doing, up from 76.1 percent in December 2004. Kirchner came into office while Argentina was still reeling from an economic collapse in December 2001 that prompted then-President Fernando de la Rua to resign and Argentina to default on more than $100 billion in foreign debt. Since then, Argentina's economy has rebounded in 2004, showing double-digit growth. Earlier this year Kirchner negotiated Argentina's partial debt repayment. © Copyright 2005 by United Press International
