Washington County-based building materials supply company 84 Lumber Co. reported that total sales in 2009 were $1.4 billion, the third consecutive annual sales decrease. Since 2006, the company’s sales have dropped 64 percent, from $3.9 billion. Spokesman Jeff Nobers said demand for 84 Lumber’s products remain down, adding that housing starts last year were less than half that of a normal market. Since 2006, 84 Lumber has been trimming retail stores. In the last year alone, the number of stores has fallen to 300 from 319.
