A Wilkinsburg woman tearfully apologized to her aunt Monday for accidentally killing her 13-year-old cousin as the girl tried to break up a domestic dispute in January.

“I will forever carry the burden of knowing that my actions are the cause of your grieving,” Alisha Frederick, 22, told Sonya Brown, whose daughter, Brittany Cambric, of Penn Hills, was shot Jan. 31 while baby-sitting Frederick’s 10-month-old son.

In July, Frederick pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and her former boyfriend, Bruno Boyd, 26, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Robert E. Colville Sr. sentenced Frederick to two to four years in prison. He sentenced Boyd to nine to 18 months.

According to police, Cambric was killed after Boyd jealously confronted Frederick at Whiskey Dick’s bar in the Strip District, where she and her friends were attending a male revue in anticipation of her planned wedding to Boyd.

The couple continued arguing after returning to their Walnut Street apartment, where Frederick pulled a .38- caliber pistol from her dresser drawer.

A fight over the gun ensued, with Bruno straddling Frederick. Cambric tried to get between the pair when the gun discharged. She died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

Brown cried as she told Colville she was torn between her love for Frederick and wanting justice for the loss of her daughter.

“I know Alisha and Bruno did not mean for my daughter to die, but the fact remains I don’t have her,” Brown said. “So what position am I supposed to take?”

Colville scolded Boyd for a past record of abusing Frederick, and chastised Frederick for staying in the abusive relationship.

Colville told Frederick she was foolish to keep a gun in a house where a young child lived.

Frederick faced a maximum term of 20 years in prison, while Boyd could have been sentenced to five years.

Colville said Frederick’s prior lack of a criminal record justified leniency, and he cut Boyd’s term because he was not the one who drew the gun.
