The evening was all about second chances on Thursday, and for the 200 guests of Renewal Inc.'s, inaugural “Start of New Beginnings” event, the sentiment rang especially true.

Dedicated to the renewal of individuals in the criminal justice system and to their return to society as responsible citizens, CEO Douglas Williams was joined by the likes of Stephen Devlin, Angela Longo, James Frantz, Teresa Fedele, Jim Roddey, Thomas Bachman, Marilyn Caye, ReginaldOverton, Kim Lyttle, Amy Kerr Parker and Sister Karen Stoila at the Omni William Penn.

Serving as keynote, Pennsylvania Department of Corrections secretary John Wetzel emphasized the importance of reducing the rate of recidivism for the thousands of individuals released back into the community.

The Sally Hillman Childs Rising Sun Award was presented to the current Mother's Voice and Religious Volunteers serving Lydia's Place (a nonprofit for helping female offenders) and Renewal.
