It's that time of year again -- the time for giving.
And there are many ways residents can share with those less fortunate or those who are serving overseas.
The Daily Courier once again is teaming with the U.S. Marines in our annual Holiday Gift Club.
We are asking our ever-generous Courier readers to again bring a new, unwrapped toy to our office at 127 W. Apple St., Connellsville.
During the last several years, we have been amazed at your response.
We are hoping for the same outpouring of generosity this year.
There are other ways to help.
Bells have already begun to ring in most Fay-West communities as local Salvation Army units hit the pavement for the annual kettle drives.
Volunteers are stationed at businesses, where residents are asked to give monetary donations. At least 90 percent of the donations stay in the community.
And, if you have time, many units are requesting help staffing the kettles. Contact your local unit and volunteer a few hours.
Residents also can help support a local high school organization -- the CAHS Patriots -- which has been raising money to send packages to the troops overseas.
Local schools have helped with this cause. Bullskin and Dunbar Borough students -- just to name a few -- recently helped the organization by raising money for the cause. These students are to be commended for their acts of giving.
So, take a step away from all the hustle and bustle of the season. The simple act of donating a toy or a quarter or even an hour of your time will make you feel a little more merry.
That merry feeling will come back to you 10-fold when someone in need is helped on Christmas Day.
