Acting schools superintendent to become North Allegheny's top administrator
North Allegheny School District announced Tuesday that acting Superintendent Robert Scherrer will be hired as the district's top administrator.
Scherrer was named acting superintendent of schools in December, following a six-month stint as a substitute superintendent filling in for Raymond D. Gualtieri, who resigned in July for health reasons.
Scherrer, 41, of McCandless, was hired by North Allegheny in 2013 as the assistant superintendent of K-12 education.
The school board is slated to vote Wednesday evening to finalize Scherrer's appointment; his annual salary is to be $170,000. North Allegheny is the largest school district in Pittsburgh's suburbs, with more than 8,200 students from Bradford Woods, Franklin Park, Marshall and McCandless.
Scherrer received bachelor of science and master of education in business degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He earned a doctorate in administrative and policy studies in 2009 from the University of Pittsburgh.
He began his career in education at Baldwin High School in 1996, where he taught entrepreneurship, accounting and computer applications.
