One of the most uplifting things to a service member overseas is the care package from home. Ask any veteran and he or she will relate a story of “the time I received … .” Being a veteran, I remember receiving that box full of goodies from loved ones at home.
The thing I find irritating are the lists of items needed by our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. These young men and women so courageously serving the red, white and blue should not want for anything.
Basics — are you kidding meâ¢ Toothpaste, bug spray, shampoo, razors — the list goes on. Why?
They are expected to get up every day to protect this nation’s sovereignty but we cannot supply them with the basic daily essentials. There’s something wrong here.
We pay a U.S. senator $174,000 a year. However, soldiers making $24,000 for risking their lives at a roadside checkpoint are doing without.
Whether you agree or disagree with the politics of this war or any war, our heroes overseas should be supported. Find an organization collecting Christmas stockings and gifts for these men and women.
Whether you know one personally or not, I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
